Verification

One narrow check, described exactly.

What the mark means

Where a verification mark appears on an entry, the photographs on it were checked against the person in them. That is the whole claim. It is deliberately narrow, because a narrow claim that holds is worth more than a broad one that cannot be backed, and because the word verified is used loosely enough elsewhere that saying exactly what it covers here is the only way to make it mean anything.

What it does not mean

It is not a check of identity documents, nationality, age or anything stated in the text of an entry. It says nothing about what is offered, about conduct, or about anything agreed after a first message. It is not a rating, not a quality tier, and not a statement that the directory stands behind the person carrying it.

It is not for sale

The mark cannot be bought, cannot be requested as a paid upgrade, and carries no position in any listing. Entries without it are not held back, ordered lower or marked as lesser in any way — they have not been through that particular check, which is a different thing from having failed it.

Reading it alongside the entry

The mark answers one question: whether these images are of this person. Everything that decides an evening — district, availability, languages, the formats named, the conditions somebody sets in her own words — is written on the entry itself, by her, and remains the thing worth reading. A mark is not a substitute for reading it.
